DescriptionMouse CCR9, previously known as GPR-9-6, is the receptor for the chemokine CCL25/TECK (thymus expressed chemokine). CCR9 is a member of the large family of G-protein coupled receptors and contains seven transmembrane domains. Phylogenetically, mouse CCR9 appears most related to mouse CCR7, another chemokine receptor implicated in T cell and dendritic cell trafficking. Consistent with the reported cross reactivity of mouse CCL25 on human cells, there is strong (85.6%) amino acid sequence homology between mouse and human CCR9. High-level expression of CCR9 has been documented in mouse thymocytes and to a much lower degree in spleen and lymph nodes. Expression of CCR9 in γ/δ T cells, in intraepithelial lymphocytes of the small intestine and in c-kit+ Lin- bone marrow cells has been reported. CCR9 gene disruption experiments confirm that CCR9 has a minimal disruptive effect on thymic T cell development, however, more profound impairments can be observed in the bone marrow and in the lymphoid compartments of the small intestine.
