Description / Human holo-Transferrin (Animal free) protein

Transferrin (TF) is found in vertebrate that mediates the transport of iron through blood plasma. When not bound to iron, the protein is known as apo-Transferrin. Each molecule contains two binding sites for iron in the ferric form Fe(III). The iron-bound holo-Transferrin (HTF) can bind to the dimeric Transferrin receptor (TfR) on a cell’s surface and is subsequently internalized by endocytosis. A reduction of pH in the vesicle decreases its iron-affinity and causes HTF to release bound iron ions. Transferrin appears to be essential for most cells growing in tissue culture. ReliaTech's Recombinant Human holo-Transferrin is a 76 kDa glycoprotein consisting of 679 amino acid residues.
